Painting Services in Henley Beach, Adelaide
Henley Beach has been a seaside suburb since its township was first subdivided in 1877. The jetty went up in 1883, when 134 people lived in 24 houses, and the Town Hall followed in 1921. Some of the homes and buildings from that history are now heritage listed. Painting them well comes down to two things: getting weathered timber back to a sound surface before anything goes on it, and preparing each surface the way it needs.
We paint Henley Beach homes inside and out, from a single room or a deck to a full two-storey exterior. Every job starts with an in-person quote, and you get a fixed price in writing.

Henley Beach Homes and What They Need
Grey decks: clean it back first
Grey timber is dead fibre. It comes off before any oil goes on.
Timber left without a coating turns grey. Intergrain explains that the grey is degraded timber fibre: it's dry and absorbent, so a coating put straight over it soaks in, can go dark and muddy, and doesn't grip a sound surface. Before we oil or stain a deck, it gets cleaned with a timber cleaner and washed off to bring it back to sound timber, then left to dry before the first coat.
Weatherboards and timber cladding
Board ends get filled and bare timber primed before any topcoat.
Weatherboards are prepared board by board. Following Haymes' steps, they're washed and left to dry, flaking paint is scraped and sanded back, gaps are filled with exterior filler, including at the ends of the boards, and bare timber is spot-primed before the topcoats. Haymes also advises against painting in direct sun or on very hot days, so we plan which walls get painted when.
Beach houses, old and new
Older home or new unit, the prep matches the surface.
Henley's heritage list includes semi-detached homes and older apartment buildings along the Esplanade, such as Haigh Mansions. Older homes like these usually have many layers of paint on their timber, which get scraped back and primed. Newer rendered homes, townhouses and units need different prep: cracks are filled and loose paint comes off before the walls, trims and roller doors are repainted.
Pergolas, posts and outdoor ceilings
Do the timber around the deck at the same time, so it all matches.
A deck rarely comes on its own. Pergola posts and beams, balustrades, steps and the ceiling over an outdoor area usually need doing at the same time. We can quote them together with the deck, so all the outdoor timber is finished in one job and the colours match.
Lead in older paint
Home built before the mid-1970s? Treat the old layers as lead paint.
SA Health advises assuming houses built before the mid-1970s have lead-based paint in their older layers. Henley Beach has homes going back to its first township, so many older houses here fall into that group. Sanding or scraping it releases toxic dust, so it needs careful handling. If your home is that age, ask us how we'll manage it on your job.
